Weekly Torah Gatherings – Sun 9/21

Lost: where we are without the Ram’s Horn: extra points for this.

We sound the shofar on Rosh Hashanah, and daily during the month of Elul (except for the eve of Rosh Hashanah).

Why would this be? Why is this, “the very symbol of the turn of the New Year” sounded throughout all of Elul and on Rosh Hashanah, and yet not on the day before?
From the Maftir Reading of Rosh Hashanah — or as understood, the bottom line of the Torah on this day — Deuteronomy 29:

In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a sacred occasion: you shall not work at your occupations. You shall observe it as a day when the horn is sounded.

As the Year Turns — Lerhaus and Budgetary Notes

As always, please click in at 7:00 PM, or before you go out.  Clicking in, all the way, is a great help in generating copies, both for stat-ratings and in grant writing.

As the New Year is almost here, it is not only a time for renewal of spirit and inclusion, but if you can find it within your budget, it is also a time of renewal of donations, dues, and memberships in our ongoing project of the Lerhaus Bet Midrash (a New School setting of Jewish Learning, or also referred to as “NewShul”).  Most of us have our own fiscal schedules, and for the record, we are always grateful for your financial support at any and all times, and of course, at a time of your choosing.  Now, as the year turns and as we approach the Holidays,  I would like to thank you for your ongoing support, both for your presence and attendance, and financial support in order to keep this project going.  The real bottom line is that I am grateful to all of you for your participation and continued support. Todah Rabah and Am Yisrael Chai,

Rabbi Seth Frisch
