If You Have Ever Felt Insignificant — Note That the Presence or the Absence of Just One Person, of Any One of Us, Can Change the Entire Course of History

Saul Attacking David (1646) is a Baroque oil-on-canvas painting by Guercino (Giovanni Francesco Barbieri), depicting a jealous King Saul attempting to spear a young David playing the harp. Located in Rome’s Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica.

The New Month: Rosh Chodesh Sivan 2026 / 5786   רֹאשׁ חוֹדֶשׁ סִיוָן

Saturday evening begins the month of Sivan on the Hebrew calendar.

This Shabbat, we see that the presence or the absence of just one person can determine events for many years to come, and as a result, change the course of history, for all of us, for all time.

This week’s Prophetic reading — the Haftara — is called Machar Chodesh — as in:

Am Yisrael Chai v’Kayam: the People of Israel, We Live, and We Thrive.
