שַׁבָּת זָכוֹר Shabbat Zachor

Shabbat of Remembrance
(Q: What are we to remember, as time goes by)?

Shabbat Zachor for Hebrew Year 5784 begins at sundown on Friday, 22 March 2024

Shabbat Zachor is the Shabbat immediately preceding the Festival of Purim and is meant to help us remember the attack by Amalek on the weakened and vulnerable Israelites on their way out of an Egyptian slavery (Deuteronomy 25:17-19). The Maftir commands us to remember this vicious attack by Amalek and to wipe them out whenever and wherever they appear. Within the reading, when hearing the name of Haman, our custom is to drown out his name, as if to erase what it has come to mean in our own time. Along these lines, the custom is to consume ‘Haman’s Ears’ or ‘Hamentaschen’ not unlike the origin of the Croissant in European lore).

יז  זָכוֹר, אֵת אֲשֶׁר-עָשָׂה לְךָ עֲמָלֵק, בַּדֶּרֶךְ, בְּצֵאתְכֶם מִמִּצְרָיִם. Deut 25: 17 Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way as ye came forth out of Egypt;
18 how he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, all that were enfeebled in thy rear, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God.
19 Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget.

A Tale of the Most Recent Court Jew:

Chuck Schumer, the Jew of the highest political office of our government. . . . says his name means Shomer or Guardian — and in that capacity, calls for a change in the Office of Prime Minister of the Government of Israel. Ironically, this comes at a time when Americans from all parties are taking steps to ensure that ‘others’ will not be able to interfere in our American elections, present and future — and I cannot imagine that this irony is (not) lost on him (along with other members of American political establishment and the Court).

While he may believe himself to be a ‘guardian’ (as he self-defined his name Schumer) — the question could just as easily be asked — ‘a guardian’ of what — and with whom did ‘this shomer’ coordinate, and from where did his words cajoling foreign interference originate?

Behold the newest “Court Jew” (manipulated in the quest of clinging to political survival, while doing the bidding of ‘the court’ — a court that desperately clings to its now apparent waning powers. It is a shame that he doesn’t have an opportunity to learn from Mordechai of the Megillah who was truly concerned for his people and would not consider bowing to “other” political considerations which would bring harm to the Jewish people. This now becomes ever more significant as Asheraraus grows ever more feeble and fearful in clinging to his own royal office.

Whatever the value of ‘the other’ forgotten words of “his speech” — which no one seems to have noticed — nor cared about — it will long be remembered on the eve of this Shabbat Zachor as a lingering stain on the dignity of the Office of the Majority Leader of the United States Senate.

PS: And finally, as a follow-up, here for our consideration . . . please take a look at a report of our First Gentleman’s daughter, Ella Emhoff: might she be a recent incarnation of Esther:
“Harris’s stepdaughter helps UNRWA’s fundraising efforts”
Excerpt: Ella Emhoff, stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris, has been raising money for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, despite the United States suspending funding to the group over its extensive terror ties.
