‘Remembrance’ as a strategy for staying alive, at least long enough to see the grandchildren . . . . survive)
Now, looking towards the future, our future, especially now as we prepare (re-evaluate) for the sake of the next generation, given what we now know, how far we’ve come, and the road ahead . . . can we make it?
A little faith can, at times, go a long way.
Remembering the generation of the desert:
Between Time and Memory — between Memory and Renewal:
“Between a rock and a hard place”
(Would any make it out alive?)
Rosh Chodesh Iyyar 2025 / רֹאשׁ חוֹדֶשׁ אִיָיר 5785 / The New Month of Iyyar — Chodesh implies the need to renew, when and where necessary to change course . . . to live. But first, in order to evaluate, to remember: how did we get here, and now, where are we going?
Rosh Chodesh Iyyar for Hebrew Year 5785 begins at sundown on Sunday, 27 April 2025 (it is a two-day Rosh Chodesh)
Tonight, this evening marks the beginning of the month of Iyyar on the Hebrew calendar. אִיָיר (transliterated as Iyar) is the 2nd month of the Hebrew year.
As a reminder, רֹאשׁ חוֹדֶשׁ, Rosh Chodesh, is considered a minor holiday, occuring at the beginning of every month on the calendar. It carries with it consequential meaning, especially as it calls us to evaluate our actions and where neccessary, to change course, both individually *and* as a People.
Of importance, the Blessing which always precedes the onset of a new month will contains these words: “Chaverim Kol Yisrael”– intimating that the People of Israel are bound to one another and responsible for each other, especially now in the world we are all learning about, however unpleasant that has become.
This is not just about Israel as a country, it never has been, instead, it is about us: “Kol Yisrael Aravim Zeh l’ Zeh” the meaning ‘we are bound to one another and we are responsible for each other.’
It is helpful to remember, regardless of where you fall on any and all of the various political spectrums, how far we have come and where we are (all) going:
Now this:
Yom HaZikaron 2025 / יוֹם הַזִּכָּרוֹן 5785 / Israeli Memorial Day
Yom HaZikaron for Hebrew Year 5785 begins at sundown this Tuesday, April 29th.
The full name of the holiday is Yom HaZikaron LeHalalei Ma’arakhot Yisrael ul’Nifge’ei Pe’ulot HaEivah (Hebrew: יוֹם הזִּכָּרוֹן לְחַלְלֵי מַעֲרָכוֹת יִשְׂרָאֵל וּלְנִפְגְעֵי פְּעֻלּוֹת הָאֵיבָה), Memorial Day for the Fallen Soldiers of the Wars of Israel and Victims of Acts of Terrorism directed against the Jewish People in Israel and as amended: throughout the world.

On a day like today, especially this evening, this New Month (Rosh Chodesh), leading to a Day of Remembrance (Yom HaZikaron), while it all remains hard to believe, yes . . . hard to believe (perhaps that is where faith comes in).
