Weekly Torah Gatherings – Wed 3/27

Many people are very uncomfortable with Jews defending themselves, and succeeding . . . perhaps there is more comfort with enslaved Jews, humiliated, or as Dara Horn has eloquently written, Dead Jews.

Age-old Food for thought: Passover is just around the corner:

ט  וַיֹּאמֶר, אֶל-עַמּוֹ:  הִנֵּה, עַם בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל–רַב וְעָצוּם, מִמֶּנּוּ. Exodus 2:9 And he said unto his people: ‘Behold, the people of the children of Israel are too many and too mighty for us;
10 come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there befalleth us any war, they also join themselves unto our enemies, and fight against us, and get them up out of the land.’

The truth “lies” before us
__________

The so-called Genocide that wasn’t . . . .

Tablet: https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/news/articles/how-gaza-health-ministry-fakes-casualty-numbers

This University of Pennsylvania analysis ^ is an inconvenient truth for the UN, the Red Cross, UNICEF, UNRWA, Doctors without Borders, the European Union, and the Ivy League among a litany of American institutions of ‘higher’ learning, the #metoo and variegated women’s movements, the BLMers, and variegated Black movements, i.e. Farrakhaners,

and now, the current White House . . . .

Is this a passive-aggressive political ignorance — or maybe just ‘lies’ and a deliberate disregard for the truth:

or is it plain old Jewhate, rehabilitated and repurposed?

here’s the Tablet link again: https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/news/articles/how-gaza-health-ministry-fakes-casualty-numbers

Is this data analysis deliberately ignored because it does not fit the antisemitic narrative that Jews should
not be allowed to defend themselves . . .

Tablet Magazine & University of Pennsylvania:
How the Gaza Ministry of Health Fakes Casualty Numbers (along with those who cite their data and those who subscribe to it)

Tablet Magazine March 6th
The evidence is in their own poorly fabricated figures
BY ABRAHAM WYNER

The number of civilian casualties in Gaza has been at the center of international attention since the start of the war. The main source for the data has been the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry, which now claims more than 30,000 dead, the majority of which it says are children and women. Recently, the Biden administration lent legitimacy to Hamas’ figure. When asked at a House Armed Services Committee hearing last week how many Palestinian women and children have been killed since Oct. 7, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said the number was “over 25,000.” The Pentagon quickly clarified that the secretary “was citing an estimate from the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry.” President Biden himself had earlier cited this figure, asserting that “too many, too many of the over 27,000 Palestinians killed in this conflict have been innocent civilians and children, including thousands of children.” The White House also explained that the president “was referring to publicly available data about the total number of casualties.”

Here’s the problem with this data: The numbers are not real. That much is obvious to anyone who understands how naturally occurring numbers work. The casualties are not overwhelmingly women and children, and the majority may be Hamas fighters.

If Hamas’ numbers are faked or fraudulent in some way, there may be evidence in the numbers themselves that can demonstrate it. While there is not much data available, there is a little, and it is enough: From Oct. 26 until Nov. 10, 2023, the Gaza Health Ministry released daily casualty figures that include both a total number and a specific number of women and children.

_______________

Reading about Biden’s blurted-out comments at one of his political gatherings yesterday. Here, the article also follows up by mentioning Harris’ remarks — Do they have a point . . . and if so, what is the point?

To some, this may look like an article of ‘current events’ or is this reporting based more on foundational lying on the part of politicians who will do anything or say anything to stay in power?

We are beginning to witness many of the old antisemitism(s) that have lain dormant for some time (some would say a generation) now being reincarnated, rearmed and intersected with election fears on the part of the current Administration.

The President says they have a point . . . what is that point?

NYT Reporting: Biden, Interrupted by Gaza Protesters, Says They ‘Have a Point’

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/26/us/politics/biden-gaza-protesters.html?unlocked_article_code=1.f00.93zm.ic5AeV0ZCX2P&smid=url-share

What is the point? That the people who slaughtered Jews deserve a healthy life they would deny to others? That rapists and baby killers need to get into their doctors to see if their colds are acting up? No, the point is that the current administration is worried about arab voters in Michigan and New Jersey not voting for them.

Fact: The people screaming about genocide Joe (see cite in the article) rely on two things: lies based on falsified data coming out of the Gaza Health Ministry and an abhorrence of Jews defending themselves.

Excerpt 1: The brief back and forth was Mr. Biden’s first direct exchange in weeks with protesters who are angry about his approach to the Israel-Gaza war. His recent campaign stops have been small, invitation-only events at which he has spoken only to his most dedicated supporters. During a campaign event in Milwaukee this month, hundreds of protesters against the war in Gaza were kept a block away, where their chants of “Genocide Joe” could not be heard inside the building hosting the Biden gathering.

Excerpt 2: And on Sunday, Vice President Harris, who has been more publicly sympathetic to the plight of Palestinians than Mr. Biden, said during an interview with ABC News that “it would be a mistake” for Mr. Netanyahu to begin a military operation into the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, as he has been threatening.

(note to Vice President Harris: a Rafah invasion is not the idea of Netanyahu – it is the consensus opinion of the people of Israel after a genocidal attack waged against the Jewish people of the State of Israel.

Note to ourselves: Please remember that this is a possible President of the United States of America
Asked in the interview if there would be “consequences” if Israel does invade Rafah, Ms. Harris replied, “I am ruling out nothing.”

Note to Vice President Harris, her Jewish husband, and his Hamas-affiliated daughter:

Neither are the Jews.

_______

Texts we may want to consider

Note: at a time of Purim, just days ago, there was Haman, and before us, just a month ahead, Pharoah and Passover

Esther ch 3: 8 And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus: ‘There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from those of every people; neither keep they the king’s laws; therefore it profiteth not the king to suffer them.
3:9 If it please the king, let it be written that they be destroyed; and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those that have the charge of the king’s business, to bring it into the king’s treasuries.’

And now, in but one month’s time, Passover

Exodus 1: 8 Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who knew not Joseph.
ט  וַיֹּאמֶר, אֶל-עַמּוֹ:  הִנֵּה, עַם בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל–רַב וְעָצוּם, מִמֶּנּוּ. 9 And he said unto his people: ‘Behold, the people of the children of Israel are too many and too mighty for us;
10 come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there befalleth us any war, they also join themselves unto our enemies, and fight against us, and get them up out of the land.’
